NEM at Net-atHome 2006 event
Cannes, France - 26/27 September 2006
The workshop was held in Cannes on 26th-27th September 2006. NEM was represented by Diego Soro (Rose Vision). Other members from NEM were also in the event, like Thorsten Herfet (Intel), Victor Manuel García (Telefónica), Victor Simoes (PT Inovaçao) and Bernard Peigne (France Telecom) among others. Victor Manuel García also represented the European FP6 project TEAHA. Thorsten was invited by TEAHA to participate in a panel.
The participation of NEM at this event has been part of the NEMi commitment to promote international cooperation between NEM and researchers around the world. In this sense, Net-atHome, in spite of be held in Europe, attracts people around the world. As an example, representatives from Texas Instruments (USA), CSIR (South Africa), NCS Communications (Republic of Singapore) or Sharp (Japan) were presented there. In total more than 150 worldwide representatives.
Net-atHome™ is an event focusing on the Connected Home domain, i.e. on products:
Taking advantage of home networking solutions, and of interfaces (or “home gateways”) connecting the home communication infrastructure (or “home platform”) to external communication (or “access”) networks,
Thus providing consumers with more attractive functionalities and services for the widest range of applications, including comfort, entertainment, remote control, security, energy management, automation, and working from home.
Net-atHome is a well reputed Forum bringing together 100-200 key players in the Connected Home domain in Europe and around the world. It is the only event in Europe, and one of the few worldwide, that covers the entire Connected Home domain (not restricted to a particular technology, standard, country, market segment, etc.), thus giving participants a level of overall understanding of the domain (multi-sector by nature) and of its markets (worldwide by nature).
This year, the PLC related issues monopolised the event. The NEM presence was so relevant to highlight the main tasks and the relevance of this initiative. In this sense, NEM was silver sponsor there and used a boot and some material to inform about the initiative.

NEM was invited also to participate in the session Plenary 5. Diego Soro (see picture) introduced NEM using the presentation attached in annex 1.
A message on the wishes from NEM to strength the links with other countries in the audiovisual and home networks fields aiming at launching joint research initiatives and projects was made. Also, Diego Soro remarked the main NEM challenges, and why the NEM sector should achieve those challenges in Europe.
