TV-datafeed to build internet-enhanced, interactive TV applications - TVEED - by mm1 Consulting & Management (Germany)

Abstract: The TVEED project is aimed to enable TV broadcasters to initiate and control internet usage related to their transmitted TV content. TVEED builds a bridge between passive television consumption and active internet use without discontinuity of media and is suitable for stationary and mobile use. Next to its simplicity, TVEED is extremely efficient and allows TV stations not to change any production or transmission setup. TV stations remain in full control over their TVEED data, enabling them to further monetize on their audience by directing it to additional content, advertising or online order systems. TVEED integrates with any IP-based TV as well as with traditional over-the-air transmission or cable TV technology.

Project: T3D in the area of 3D Media Internet, by Atos Origin (Spain)

Abstract: T3D wants to create a space to discuss, to collaborate and to try taking advantage of possible synergies between Europe, USA and Asia. The following points are the different steps and actions that have been identified for the establishment of an operational and valid structure addressing a strategy of collaboration:

Generation of networking among 3D Media Internet actors within Asia and USA to facilitate the participation of potential partners and contractors in projects within the EU and to share knowledge and experience, by organizing promotional activities as follows:

1) Workshops including training sessions and consultancy services in liaison with the selected Asian and American actors (ministries, universities, research centres or consulting companies) that most fit to the objective of the event.

2) Local matching, by advising in partner search & complementarities to collaborate in present and future 3D Media Internet projects.

At the same time, creation of a network between Asian, American and European potential partners

User media Halos for Pervasive And participative Content - UHPAC - by INESC Porto

Abstract: This project is about ad-hoc media networking in public spaces. Articulated around the idea of personal "media halos" (i.e. individual profiles surrounding mobile users and representing their tastes and consumption behaviors with regards to media content), the project will propose novel solutions for improving mobile networked content consumption, distribution, sharing, and enrichment by end-users; with a special focus on music content and non-expert users.

Emogen - by ALTEC Information and Communication Systems S.A.

Abstract: An individual's emotions can become one of the most valuable tools in his / her personal and professional by actively listening and absorbing. Experiences build on emotions and are affected by the particular context they emerge.

We propose to investigate an emotional authoring environment which shall

  • Process experiences and emotions as essential parts of an interaction
  • Produce outputs and results to be used by various social and organisational environments.

Focus areas of the proposed research in EMOGEN includes:

  • Manifestation of emotions through computers (interaction models and application concepts)
  • Presentation of experiences in a given digital(ised) context
  • Organisation of individual and group activities to support emotion-based interactions

Collaborative Content & Content-based Services - COCOS - by Atos Origin

Abstract: COCOS Value Proposition is to grant the smaller media enterprises access to content syndication services currently available only to big media players. The network and collaboration effect will grant smaller players the ability to have a consistent and comprehensive presence in the market through a flexible dynamic value-chain that will foster new service creation across the EU. In addition, non-professional communities of end-users will be able to make use of professional tools for audiovisual editing, filtering and others. COCOS main objective is the definition and development of an application for collaborative audiovisual production, editing and publication with tools running on a Peer2Peer distributed workflows and a semantic Web based repository of news information that will make contents and services available to different types of users: Broadband TV editors, translation agencies, domain experts etc.

RISING: Broadcasting Localised Information - by WIT-Software Lda

Abstract: Road safety is a major concern for all of us. Although things have improved in recent years, the number of road fatalities is still unacceptably high. In 2005, road accidents killed over 40000 people in the European Union and injured more than 1.2 million. RISING allows the reception of accurate, localised and real-time traffic information inside vehicle enabling drivers to react in time, reducing their speed, looking for alternate routes and increasing their awareness. In this sense, RISING contributes to the increase of road safety by broadcasting localised and real-time Traffic and Travel Information to vehicle drivers.

TV Audience Measurement Intelligent System - AMIS-TV - by Telefónica I+D

Abstract: Today’s TV Audiences Scenario: Different TV platforms: Satellite, Cable, TDT, DVB-H Consequences:

  • More channels -> Audience fragmentation
  • User interaction (possible with TDT) -> New challenges to measure the ‘share’ index.

Challenge: New process to achieve the highest quotes of share, knowing users preferences:

  • Daily measures from users monitors -> Huge amount of data collected (samples) from every user and day
  • Updating dynamically user’s profile from data collected from their terminals and from a characterization process (forms, surveys, etc).
